The Training

What is this training?

This stimulating and intensive three-day experiential workshop offers both an understanding of the Emotional Repercussions of Dyslexia*, and also practical applications to address the issues that it creates.

It is a valuable toolkit for all those who support dyslexic people such as counsellors, trainers, supervisors, social workers, SENCos, youth workers, tutors, teachers, teaching assistants, and managers etc., and will provide knowledge and skills that can be used directly with clients.

The workshop has been designed as a foundation for professionals who already have a basic understanding and practice of dyslexia support and wish to expand their learning within a therapeutic framework.

It is also excellent in helping dyslexic professionals appreciate their abilities and life experiences.

It will help develop your skills and confidence in working with dyslexic clients and add new techniques to your strategy toolbox.

What you’ll be getting?

Experiential 3 day workshop

You will join a small group of like-minded individuals for a three-day, retreat-style therapeutic, skills training programme addressing the Emotional Repercussions of Dyslexia based in a tranquil, harmonious setting that nurtures personal and professional wellbeing.

    – Coaching
    – Mentoring
  3. Strategies to address anxiety and depression
  4. Opportunity to practice with like-minded practitioners
  5. Space to reflect and recharge in a retreat style setting

GroOops Dyslexia Aware Counselling

Why are we different?

The GroOops philosophy is based around developing an extensive understanding of how dyslexia* can impact on the emotions and therefore, on every aspect of a person’s life. Without this knowledge, it can be challenging to work therapeutically with neuro-diversity.

A dyslexic person, in an emotionally distraught state, is not someone who can engage easily with further learning – including skills support.

Our approach and non-hierarchical training programme is successful because we know and understand what is required to change your dyslexic clients’ lives for the better, reduce anxiety and improve self-confidence.

This is based on our twelve years’ experience as the leading therapeutic organisation working specifically with neurodiverse clients and the emotional repercussions of Dyslexia and evidenced by feedback from clients and professionals as to the efficacy of our approach.

*We use the term ‘Dyslexia’ because it is the most common of all Sp.L.D.s. What we do is largely applicable to all the other conditions known to be related such as Dyscalculia, A.D.H.D., A.D.D., Autism Level 1 (Asperger’s Syndrome), Dyspraxia and Dysgraphia. Many of these conditions can overlap and often coexist

The training programme

Timetable

Day 1:

A familiarisation of constitutional presentations of dyslexia and the potential emotional repercussions.

Day 2:

Focuses specifically on practice.  Methodologies and devices we have found work for our dyslexic clients and why.

Day 3:

Experiential skills practice, role play, case studies and live supervision demonstrations – putting into practice the theory gained in the preceding two days.

“The experience was inspiring, thought-provoking and invaluable.”

I'm writing to thank you very much for the workshop, the content and manner of delivery were top notch. I learned a great deal, and it was set in such a relaxed atmosphere, and lovely surroundings too!..what more can one ask for.

Superseded my expectations - I came away with a far deeper understanding of the cost of dyslexia, and an enhanced awareness of what needs to be thought about

Really enjoyable workshop in all its dimensions i.e. environment, teaching, learning from other people's experiences.

One of the best courses I have been on. To be with like-minded people helped free me from the critic within.

Excellent all round - very enriching and exhilarating, developing greater confidence in myself.

Pennie Aston's untold knowledge requires greater recognition in the field of dyslexia - Congratulations GroOops.

Amazing experience - 2 days where I have felt safe with everyone.

The course helped me to have a framework on how to go about assessing and understanding the needs of the client and how to respond to those needs in the way that works for the client.
